The University of Washington is hiring a Research/Scientist Engineer 4: Transient Tracers Sea-going Scientist.
This employee will be responsible for leading the transient tracer laboratory at the Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL). They will be expected to perform original research utilizing transient tracer observations, as well as follow their own scientific interests in related oceanographic research. They will be responsible for making measurements of transient tracers such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs and sulfur hexafluoride [SF6]) and nitrous oxide (N2O) at sea, analyzing samples at sea and on land, and performing quality control checks on measurements, in support of repeat hydrography projects conducted by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). At sea they may be asked to mentor one or two more junior technicians, including students. This CICOES employee will work within the Global Observations of Biogeochemistry and Ocean Physics (GOBOP) group at PMEL, and primarily support the U.S. Global Ocean Ship-based Hydrographic Investigations Program (GO-SHIP).
