DESCRIPTION
Perform high precision quantitative analyses of oceanographic properties including: dissolved nutrients, dissolved oxygen, carbon dioxide parameters and salinity. Prepare equipment and chemicals for research expeditions. Set up, operate, maintain and repair instrumentation at sea and on shore. Assist with operation of autonomous sensors. Assist with all facets of processing CTD and hydrographic data, from initial quality control to final report. Assist with set up and maintenance of computer hardware and peripherals used for data processing. Assist with management of software under Linux operating system used for data processing.
QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate degree in chemical oceanography or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Ability to perform standard repetitive laboratory techniques. Ability to read, interpret and apply protocols in conducting research. Ability in following step wise experimental protocols.

Experience with the operation of hydrographic sampling equipment

Experience with chemical analyses of sea water.

Demonstrated knowledge of ocean data collection theories and practices. Proficient in oceanographic sample collection and processing techniques.

Theoretical and practical experience with statistical analysis data processing software.

Experience with the installation and configuration of computers and peripheral equipment (e.g. monitors, printers, plotters and backup media).

Experience in sea going analytical operations involving the high precision analysis of dissolved nutrients in seawater using a continuous flow analyzer, dissolved oxygen using automatic titrators, and salinity using salinometers.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Must be willing and able to participate on research cruises of up to 2 months duration, for a total of up to 6 months annually. Must be able to travel globally without restriction. Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC). Must have a valid drivers license.
