Alison MacdonaldCruises, I08S, Opportunities, Opportunity Closed

Greetings,
We are seeking to fill the both the Chief and co-Chief Scientist positions for the 2024 decadal re-occupation of the GO-SHIP (https://usgoship.ucsd.edu and http://www.go-ship.org) meridional line known as I08 – a hydrographic transect along ~90°E from ~66.5° to 28°S in the southeastern Indian sector of the Southern Ocean.

For the Chief Scientist, we are looking for scientists and/or technicians with experience in physical and/or biochemical oceanography (hydrography) and in oceanographic expedition organization. Preferred candidates will have previous experience with organizing and executing oceanographic field studies (particularly in the Indian and/or in the Southern Ocean) and/or will have been a Chief or Co-Chief Scientist or a Principal Investigator for a previous US GO-SHIP cruise.

For the co-Chief Scientist, we are looking for scientists and/or technicians with experience in physical or biochemical oceanography (hydrography). No at-sea experience is necessary, although it can be a plus. The Chief Scientist will provide training and mentoring onboard. As the co-Chief Scientist experience is a stepping stone to future opportunities to sail as Chief Scientist preferred candidates are early career, but technicians with equivalent experience are also encouraged to apply.

PARTICULARS:
• We will be sailing on the R/V T.G. Thomson
• 41 days at sea + 6 days in ports
• Cruise will start and end in Fremantle, Australia
• Timing: Mid-February to late March 2024

Further details on the cruise and application can be found here.

Deadline for applications: September 10, 2023
